Who we are
Succession is published at successionadvisory.uk. We are an independent editorial platform for UK business owners. For data protection purposes, the data controller is Succession Group. You can contact us about data matters at contact@successionadvisory.uk.
What data we collect
We collect personal data only when you choose to provide it, in the following circumstances:
- Newsletter subscription: your name and email address.
- Valuation calculator: your first name, company name, email address, and phone number (optional). We also collect the inputs you provide: sector, revenue band, approximate EBITDA, owner dependency score, and revenue type. We do not store these inputs beyond the session.
- Exit readiness checklist download: your first name and email address.
We do not collect payment card data directly. Any future payment processing will be handled by Stripe, a PCI-DSS compliant third party.
How we use your data
We use the data you provide for the following purposes:
- To deliver the newsletter you subscribed to, via Beehiiv.
- To send you the resource you requested (exit readiness checklist or other free downloads).
- To contact you if you indicated an interest in speaking with an adviser (phone number, where provided voluntarily).
We do not use your personal data for automated decision-making or profiling in a way that produces legal effects.
Legal basis for processing
For individuals who have opted in to our newsletter via our website, the legal basis for processing is consent. You can withdraw consent at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link in any email we send.
For corporate contacts at limited companies, LLPs, or partnerships who are contacted as part of our newsletter outreach programme, the legal basis is legitimate interest under UK GDPR. We have a legitimate interest in marketing our editorial content to business owners and decision-makers at companies that are likely to find it relevant. We have conducted a legitimate interest assessment and concluded that this interest is not overridden by your interests or rights. You can opt out at any time with one click, no questions asked.
Analytics
We use Vercel Analytics to understand how visitors use our website. Vercel Analytics is privacy-first: it does not use cookies, does not collect personal data, and does not store IP addresses. No cookie consent banner is required. You can read Vercel's privacy documentation at vercel.com/docs/analytics/privacy-policy.
We do not use Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, or any other tracking technology that collects personal data or uses cookies.
Data processors
We share data with the following third-party processors, who process it on our behalf under data processing agreements:
- Beehiiv (beehiiv.com): newsletter delivery, subscriber management, and email analytics. Beehiiv is a US-based company. Data transfers are covered by standard contractual clauses.
- Vercel (vercel.com): website hosting. Vercel processes minimal data as described above.
We do not sell your personal data to third parties. At this stage, we do not share individual personal data with any acquirers, PE firms, or other commercial parties. Any future data product will use anonymised and aggregated data only, unless we have your explicit consent.
Data retention
We retain your data for as long as you remain a subscriber to our newsletter. If you unsubscribe, we remove your data from active lists within 30 days. If you request deletion of all data held about you, we will action this within 30 days.
Backup and archival copies may be retained for a further 90 days before permanent deletion.

- Correct inaccurate personal data
- Request deletion of your personal data ("right to be forgotten")
- Restrict or object to processing of your personal data
- Data portability: receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format

Companies House data
When you submit a form on our website including your company name, we may use the Companies House API to look up publicly available information about your company: including the registered address, SIC code, director information, and filed accounts data. This is public data held by Companies House and is not subject to the same restrictions as personal data. We use it to better understand the context of the businesses engaging with our content.
Security
We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your personal data against unauthorised access, loss, or disclosure. Our website is served over HTTPS. We do not store sensitive financial data such as bank details or payment card information.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page when we do. We will not make material changes to how we use your data without notifying you if you are a subscriber.
